I encountered the following error today when trying to restart an analysis:
*** FATAL ***
Cannot extend a previous version result file.
This error confuses me because the ANSYS version I used for the initial analysis and the restart are the same (Mechanical v14.5.7). I did make a complete copy of the folder and all of its contents from the initial analysis for backup before restarting, but I don't see how this would affect anything. The error occurred immediately after the first load step converged and caused ANSYS to close, creating an ansabort.db file. Additionally, the .rst file was completely deleted. Good thing I had made that copy.
Has anyone found a solution or identified the cause of this type of error? I found a few previous XANSYS threads about it (links below), but no real solutions had been posted. One user suggested using the /CONFIG command to increase the maximum number of results sets saved to the .rst file. I tried that (increasing from the default 10,000 to 1,000,000) and got the same error.
